Why the MOT certificate
has changed MOT test results are now
held on a secure central computerised database.
This change will
not
affect actual MOT test. But it will
affect the way you check the MOT history.
About the new
certificate
The certificate (VT20) you now receive is your
receipt for the MOT test. It shows the information that will be kept on
the MOT database.
The receipt should no longer be
relied on as proof of an MOT. Only the computer record can prove a
vehicle has a valid MOT.
Any recommended additional work will be shown on
the Advisory Notice (VT32)
What it means for you
The MOT computer record shows definitively whether
s vehicle has a valid MOT or not, so criminals are no longer given the
opportunity to falsify MOT documents. This will:
- cut down on certificate theft and MOT fraud
- provide better information and protection for
motorists when buying second-hand vehicles
- improve the standards and consistency of the
MOT test
- enable you to buy a tax disc online at
www.direct.gov.uk/taxdisc

DVLA now offers you the convenience of buying your
tax disc from the comfort of your own home.

regular servicing, and passing the MOT test does not mean that
your vehicle will remain safe for the following 12 months.
For more information about the MOT test as k for
the following leaflets at any MOT garage.
'Your car and the MOT test' (for cars and light vans) and
'Your motorbike and the MOT test' (for motorcycles).
