The Ford Mondeo has been
crowned Best Family Car and Best Estate in the Auto Express New Car
Honours for the second year running, with S-MAX named Best MPV. Awarding
the Best Estate title, Auto Express said: “In a class where space rules
supreme, Ford’s Mondeo has few challengers.” It said that the Mondeo
estate offers all of the driveability, performance and luxury of the
standard hatchback, “and manages to serve this up in a package that
looks simply fantastic”. The Mondeo estate is current holder of Britain’s two major towcar of the year awards, one given by The Caravan Club and the other by Practical Caravan, What Car? and the Camping and Caravanning Club. Awarding the Best Family Car title, Auto Express said: “The brilliant new Mondeo is – quite simply – the best family car yet built.” Enthusing about Mondeo being brilliant to drive, and offering a huge choice of engines and specification, the magazine said it was “as refined as any executive rival”. The S-MAX is “beautiful to drive, practical and beautifully built….proof that families really can have it all,” said Auto Express. It said that a huge equipment list and sporty options including alloy wheels, ensure that driving an MPV need not mean giving up on a brilliant car. The Auto Express New Car Honours are the result of the biggest new car assessment programme carried out by any UK motoring magazine – with more than 1,100 new cars independently tested each year on a wide range of key buying criteria, including practicality, value for money, performance, handling and safety. |
